Job Description
Come join our amazing Operating Room team! The Surgical Room Specialist I position is an excellent first step into the medical field and those looking to make an actual difference in the lives of patients. You’ll play an instrumental role in surgical patient care before, during, and after procedures. There is also room to grow within this department and medical center as a Surgical Room Specialist I.
*Please note, at this time we are only able to consider full-time, year-round applicants for this position and are asking for a full-time commitment in this role for at least 1 year.
The Surgical Room Specialist I functions within the policies and procedures of UVMMC and Peri-Operative Services. This position encompasses both the clinical and technical activities of assisting with patient care, before, during and after surgical procedures to include patient positioning, patient transport, OR equipment preparation and maintenance, inventory control, anesthesia support during intubation, pathological and laboratory specimen handling and participation in quality control initiatives.
The Surgical Room Specialist I will work closely with OR RNs, OR Technicians, Surgeons, Anesthesia Providers, Pharmacy, Operating Room Staff and Biomedical Engineering. They will help maintain a safe and clean physical work environment. The Surgical Room Specialist I works under the direction and supervision of OR Leadership.
Below are the shifts we have open:
11:00 am - 9:30 pm typically Mon-Fri and 1 weekend on call shift a month (4, 10- hour days)
6:45 pm - 7:15 am Wednesday, Thursday, Friday (3, 12-hour shifts)
6:45 am - 5:15 pm typically Mon-Fri and 1 weekend on call shift a month (4, 10- hour days)
This position will require some on-call weekend support (usually 1 shift/month). The pay rate for this position starts at base: $16.63/hr to mid: $20.61/hr and is based on experience and internal equity.
EDUCATION:
High School diploma or GED.
EXPERIENCE:
Genuine interest in healthcare required. Previous patient care experience preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology helpful.
KNOWLEDGE/SPECIAL SKILLS
Acquire BLS per hospital policy (biannual renewal required)
